The Village of Glencoe has made significant stormwater improvements throughout the Village for the last three decades to address local and recurring flooding issues. The Village’s investment in reducing flooding has included over $15 million of investments in larger projects over the last 10 years.
The Village is now undertaking a two-year stormwater master plan to prepare the Village for the future.
The first step in this process is assessing the Village’s current level of stormwater service using a comprehensive hydrologic and hydraulic model. This model will help show the benefits of the improvements that have been made and identify areas still vulnerable to flooding during large rain events.
The next step will be to develop a program of infrastructure improvements and policies that will help the Village achieve 100-year protection. All sizes and types of potential solutions will be considered, with a focus on achieving 100-year protection in the most cost-effective ways possible. These solutions may include new storm sewers, stormwater detention, green infrastructure, and revised Village policies.
Citizen input will be an important part of the Glencoe Stormwater Master Plan. This website will provide updates on project progress and upcoming meetings, and it includes an online survey that allows you to describe flooding you have experienced in the Village. There will also be several public meetings to discuss the project goals and results.
